16 things about me + an announcement

Jan 13, 2009 | Entrepreneurship, Life in Progress

1. i walk around in the world feeling like the above, like our spirits are all intertwined, that we all matter, that we have so much to teach one another. sometimes i feel overwhelmed by all the goodness, like i’m not sure where to put all the energy.

2. i don’t like coffee. but i must have black tea in the morning with sugar + milk.
3. i went to seven different schools in seven years (k-7). in some ways, it taught me to adapt easily to change, to meet people easily, but it also taught me to crave stability.
4. i have the world’s worst memory. my friends kimmie and garrett are the only people i know with worse. i keep a super detailed organizer – it’s the only way i remember to do anything.
5. i’m a huge actualizer. if i think about something, a project, or something i want to do for whatever reason, then i do it. no over thinking. no planning. i just get in the car, or hop on the internet, or go to my studio, or call someone, etc, etc and work toward whatever task/project/thought it is. my mom is the same way. for a long time, i didn’t think much about this trait but i’m learning how different i am from several of my friends in this area because they keep pointing it out to me! when it comes to things i need, however, or self-care, i’m not so fast to actualize – totally need to work on that.
6. i often need silence. no tv. no music. nothing. just silence. this drives john nuts as he’s a huge music person – likes it on in the mornings, afternoons, evenings. i love music (soulful alt country, folk, etc) but i can’t have it on all day long. it’s best in the studio when i’m painting.
7. i have never been good at flossing. and everyday i hear the inner voice that says “only floss the ones you want to keep” and i still don’t floss (see what i mean, #5?).
8. in highschool, i was voted most likely to wear stripes with plaids. hmm. and in college i’m pretty sure i wore overalls every single day from 1993-1996.
9. if you told me 3 years ago that i would be living this life, working full time as an artist and creative business owner, i would have told you you were nuts.
10. i am very, very far-sighted and have worn glasses since i was ten years old.
11. i shamelessly love and watch the hills, the city, and the bachelor 🙂
12. i am equally extraverted as i am introverted. i ALWAYS score middle of the road for every personality trait on every personality test i’ve ever taken. always. sometimes this makes me feel non-existent, like i’m not interesting enough. but i’m learning that i’m just easy, adaptable, and flexible.
13. i love it when the house is clean, especially the hardwoods so i can walk around barefoot.
14. i asked my husband out on our first date almost ten years ago.
15. i go back + forth about whether or not i want to be a momma. it changes every other week, my thoughts on this.
16. i can get super spooked by darkness.
consider yourself tagged. would love to know 16 things about you!

i am so proud to announce the Kelly Rae Roberts Collection debuted last week at the Atlanta gift show. DEMDACO is carrying this extensive line of wall art reproductions and i’m totally thrilled with how they turned out – on canvas with thicker sides, totally looks and feels like an original painting, and insanely affordable.

the sizes range from 6×6 inches to 18×18 inches. they just debuted last week but will start filtering out to stores nationwide soon. totally surreal + exciting for me to see these images taken by my friend laura – she snapped these photos for me as i wasn’t able to attend the atlanta show (thanks so much laura!). more products will debut this summer from DEMDACO, including glass charm necklaces, adorable gift boxes, tote bags, bookmarks, and more. but for now, i’m smitten with the wall art line. how cool is that?

Sending much love,

i think we must be kindred spirits, “soul sistas” or something…because after reading your blog over the last year, i am constantly blown away at the similarities of events in our lives, and how we get/got through them. someday, hope to meet you on the trail…but for now keep up the beautiful gift you are giving the world!

Congratulations on your line with Demdaco. I’ve always been impressed with the quality of their lines. Which doesn’t hold true for many of the gift companies out there. They did a great job of displaying your products, it’s too bad you couldn’t have been there in person 🙁

Your work is beautiful. It is truly wonderful to be able to make a living doing what you love most. I will attest to that too. 🙂

Have a great day Kelly Rae.

Your artwork looks beautiful in the cases – congratulations!

And on item #15…be a momma if you can, it’s the best thing in the whole wide world…even if it is the hardest thing sometimes. I was always on the fence and at 37 found myself “with child”, a complete surprise to my husband and I. I panicked for the entire nine months…The baby is now five and has been joined by a brother. Life is crazy most of the time but it is the biggest blessing you’ll ever experience and it will change you in ways you never imagined, if you let it, in all good ways.

    16. I’m loving being in my twenties.

    15. I like to try and be creative although I dont pursue this very much I almost always surprise myself pleasently when I do give in and explore new areas of myself.

    14. I don’t floss as much as I should either, but have gotten better about this in the last year.

    13. I have worn glasses since I was 9 months old, and also extremely far sighted with off the charts atigmatism which recently learned this does not make me a candidate for lasik, but contact implants. no thanks.

    12. I was on the fence with number 15 as well. But I am an overthinker so when it did happen and wasnt planned I didnt have time to think through that fear….he came, and now I cant imagine a day in my life without him in it.

    11. As stated above, I am an overthinker/ anaylizer, I hate that about myself.

    10. I love living in Hawaii and feel genuinally soul happy…even though loved ones are so far away.

    9. I was born to be a miltary wife.

    8. I believe in Angels and Orbs. There around me and my loved ones always and have started showing themselves with pictures for proof. check out my myspace for further investigation.

    7. I also believe in God, Heaven, and Hell.

    6. I wish I had my mother’s beautiful mexican dark skin.

    5. I am having a hard time letting go of nursing my son even though he is only now doing it for comfort…this surprises me as I wasnt that into it in the beginning.

    4. I am a perpetual student with the hopes of being done with something soon in the near future.

    3. When I was younger my hair would literally grow an inch over night….not so much these days, its like an inch a year. this annoys me.

    2. I also am not a big fan of wearing shorts and not sure how any girl can stand walking in them.

    1. I try to let you know as often as I can that I am proud of you and that I love you. I genuinally mean it. I felt this way before you blossomed into this beautiful artist. I wish we could see eachother more often than we have but I am grateful for the means of communication we do have and try to utilize them. I am proud to call you my big sister!

How exciting! I recently purchased your book and it has inspired me to have fun and paint! I’m loving it…THANK YOU! I’m an art therapist and so many of the concepts you talk about in the book and on your site are completely in line with my professional ideas and values and they are what I bring to my work with clients. But I don’t often apply them to myself and MY art. So THANK YOU for the reminder!

i feel you. i go more back than forth. and sometimes i feel like ‘what kind of woman am i if i decide not to have children? does it mean i’m hard? not feminine? selfish? i like the comment above about ‘feeling’ it rather than ‘thinking’ it (to death). still though…possibly one of the hardest choices to make (or not).

I love this “Hope” print I got from you last month. Best to you on your endeavors.
Oh! And do you know about the handy little flossers that look like a little wish bone with the floss strung across. They are SO MUCH more convenient than a spool of floss. I really detest flossing, too. But I will do it more frequently with the little wishbone thingee.
