A little studio update from me (and True!)

Jul 22, 2019 | My Creative Practice

(Isn’t this so cool? It’s via Michelle Allen Designs. LOVE!)

I’ve been making my way back into my studio now that things are starting to settle in after our move. Gosh, it feels SO GOOD to make and paint and smudge and rip paper and glue and on and on. I’ll share a tour of the new studio soon. I want it to fill in a bit more with experiences and art sessions first, so that it feels a bit lived in and real. I am loving the space, though. It’s a perfect small size, just what I wanted.

True has been joing me quite a bit in the studio, which let me tell you is my wildest mama dreams come true! He had a breakthrough recently, explaining to me that he realized that coming to the canvas with a complete picture in his mind of what he wanted to paint was NO FUN AT ALL. Instead, he said, he’s embracing the process of just showing up, starting with one simple idea, and then allowing that idea to emerge into the next idea and then the next. He’s 8 and my wish for him is that he holds tightly to this wisdom! It was such a great conversation. I love watching him thrive creatively, struggles and all.

I’m working on a series of dress forms at the moment. Loving the simplicity of the focus as I stretch my creative muscles and lean in. I’ll have some new prints in the shop soon. Stay tuned!

XO, Kelly Rae

Sending much love,

Hi Kelly, I’ve been an admirer of yours for a very long time. I saw a print of yours in a bookstore about 6 or 7 (or 8, time flies) years ago and was so inspired and intrigued with how you layered. I immediately ran out and bought patterned tissue paper and attempted to recreate what I saw. ( failed miserably) I then found your book and it opened the door to mixed media. I work daily as a dual diagnosis therapist but creating is my joy. Thank u forever for continuing to inspire and guide.
    Namaste, glenda
