community

Sep 1, 2007 | Life in Progress

it seems that every single sky of every single day here in california looks like this. bluebird. blue. so forever blue you wonder about its edges. it’s the color of daydreams and light and possibility. it somehow has me wondering and marveling at the fact that i live here. i never in a million years thought i’d live in california. it feels quite bizarre in this little moment. hmm.

i had a lovely dinner with my new friend laurie mika and her daughter corrine this evening. they were in town to hang laurie’s solo show at oakland’s institute of mosaics. what delightful women they are! the three of us sat for hours together at an outside table chatting about art and books and editors (hi tonia) and travels and love and family and life. not only does laurie have her own book (recently released to rave reviews), but she was kind enough to also contribute any amazing piece for mine. she is beyond talented, but also warm, and kind, and nurturing. we took a photo, but it came out all fuzzy….oh well.

i love the feeling of community in my life. it’s pulse is strong and keeps my heart full. i’ve always had a rich gathering of friends, near and far, but it’s growing with depth and meaning with each new soul. love it.

Sending much love,

Oooh, Laurie Mika is one of my choices for Artfest – her work is so beautiful. Your post about community really resonates with me, one of my themes for the year is ‘connect’ and I am savouring my communities.

Enjoy that blue sky. It truly isn’t any bluer anywhere else.
