everyday magic.

(the lovely hula and mati, taken today in san fran)

it’s been happening so much lately. everyday magic. coincidences. little moments that have me pausing in reconsideration. it happens when the same double digits appear several times throughout my day or when numbers repeat themselves in such odd, suspicious ways inside the space of my weeks. it happens when the phone rings and it’s a friend whose number i was dialing at that very moment. it also happens when i think about how nice it would be to find the perfect table for my new studio space (the new one i’m sharing with a friend) only to find the exact same studio table i currently have (but won’t be able to move) for sale on the neighbor’s lawn the very next morning. all i can say is that everyday magic has been happening a lot lately. lots and lots of paused moments of hmmm. i know you know what i’m talking about and don’t you love it when it happens?

but the best of all the recent everyday magic happened today. here’s the story: i spent the day today with mati and hula (who is in town from portland). we spent hours chatting, eating, and roaming the streets of the mission looking at murals and all the sights. toward the end of our visit we were all walking down a sidewalk cluttered with random trash. you know, the general sidewalk trash that exists in all urban cities.: old newspaper pages, dirty paper plates, endless bits of crumbled paper. anyway, we’re all walking down the sidewalk when mati yells out “kelly!” and there is is: a very, very old business card. oh wait, it’s my business card. in fact, it’s my first ever business card. and here it is in the middle of some random san francisco sidewalk, in a city of millions, right here at my feet, waiting for this exact moment of collision. it’s the oddest thing ever. it’s magic. later, as we marveled at how in the world it happened and the odds of it all, mati pointed out that perhaps it’s a full circle moment of my beginnings coming around again for a closer look. i had, just yesterday, blogged about beginnings and this was, afterall, my very first business card. so true and a lot of hmmmmms. i love that there it was, reaching out for me to find it on a very windy day in the city. so random, yet so not random at all. again, magic. love it.

(here it is. so funny.)

more magic from my day was meeting the gorgeous hula and her family. she is just as her blog shows her to be: vivacious. down to earth. accessible. witty. talented. oh yes, and she lives in portland…we will be seeing more of each other for sure. what a lovely woman she is. one thing i do love is meeting other bloggers. talk about magic.

what’s been your everyday magic lately?

I looked through your earlier artwork after reading your last post, and thanks for leaving it up.. it’s inspiring to see another artist develop and be brave enough to leave it all out to see.

and I’d love to see a close-up of the old business card, too!

I’ve continually found that times like these – when synchronicity, serendipity and all the magic of The Great Purple (what my friends refer to it as) – these times are when you are truly on your true path and the universe is rewarding you with these little tidbits!

Kelly, that is AWESOME! Your chronicles have been magic for me. You really have shown me the path to my own possibilities, a major shift in my thinking. My art is opening new doors and windows, I cannot wait to see where I go. The gift that keeps on giving….you certainly have affirmation that you are on the right path.

Wow, I love love love it when that happens! And I totally know what you mean. I had a magical moment yesterday when my husband and I were walking down the street in downtown Denver. I was telling him about an old friend of mine from high school – someone I had never mentioned to him before – from a photography class. Strangely enough, when we turned the corner- there she was! Talking on her cell phone! She got off and we talked for a while, but it was one of those moments for sure! I kind of like it when they happen! Thanks for sharing!

my magic of late is feeling a deeper connection to my husband. we’ve been married a long time so i guess the connection is no great surprise but i’ve just been noticing it more lately. finishing each other’s sentences, thinking about the same random thing at the same time. it’s freaky and wonderful all rolled into one. i love it!

My magic seems to come when I feel that I am out of hope. I have started a new business and never really know when my next job will appear. I have been marketing like crazy. Just when I feel as though I will never get another job God provides. This last time, not just one job, but FOUR!!! Yeah!!

Lately, my magic has been about making it through. It’s been pure magic that I’ve made it where I need to be when I need to be. I’m ready to start finding a new kind of magic in the world, the kind that is open and inspiring.

What a cool story about finding your business card!!! I can’t even begin to comprehend the magic that went into making that happen. Although I guess that’s what magic is–incomprensible… Awesome.

You simply *MUST* frame that business card!

It’s amazing what magic can happen in your life if you keep your eyes and heart open to it.

I am currently awaiting some magic to unfold myself. I’ve got questions before the universe so we’ll see what comes of it.

CLearly your finding this piece of your past was to affirm it.

I love the everyday magic… it seems to happen more when we open ourselves to it, when we’re right there, in the moment, paying attention, and then, abracadabra, there it is! And the beauty of it is… we’re making the magic, each time we recognize it, each time we embrace it…

After reading your blog it took me a time to find – what is the everyday magic in my life!

And than I thought, aren’t it the small things in our life? When in a city full of stressed out persons, a smiling face came along? A lovely flower blooming in a hidden place? When the sun came out after a rainy day? Or your favorite song in the radio and you sing out loud?

Most of us let life pass without seeing these small wonders!!!

My everyday magic is the sound of the voices of our pilgrim-choir!!! I pilgrimaged in Mai 5 days, because of some bad disease in my family (to let these packages on the way). I lost my faith in god many many years before, but I had the wish to give him something back for the good endings he gave me!
So I decided to pilgrim. And always thought I can’t sing and it sounds more than bad when I do. But I went in the middle of the choir and even when I thought nobody can hear me, I sang. First very gentle and after the 5 day I sang with all of my heart and as loud as I loved. It was so liberating!!!

And now and then when I am stressed or in my dreams in the middle of the night I hear them sing the songs. It feels like a embracement!!!

Oh my, that is quite a magical moment! Astonishing really! I’ve been wondering what my latest magical moment might be… just scanned some other comments and whoa, here’s one sitting right before my eyes. Julie H’s comment about her ‘last night visitors’! I am the ‘lady’ threatening to steal her origial ‘Kelly Rae’ painting – he he!!!

Hmmm, that makes me think Kelly! You know, I think magic happens for people in DIFFERENT ways, and not everyone gets the chance to have it blast into their day in physical form! Sometimes it is a feeling, or a vision, or a moment, a memory, or even a challenge to overcome! So I do believe I have my share of magic for sure! :0)
You day sounded wonderful! I also want to say Congrats to lucky Michelle for winning yesterday’s post! I can GUESS what her magic is…….YOU! Hugs,Patti

I, too, play the numbers game! On my odometer, clock, random receipts, etc. How funny. Anyway, I think you finding your business card was so unreal! Wow!
My everyday magic lately has been things like the meter already having time on it when I got there, my horoscope, and an email from an old co-worker. Love it when someone catches up. It’s like old beginnings coming back to remind me of how far I’ve come in my career(and him). Magic!

I got goose bumps when I saw that picture. Wow!

Here is my recent everyday magic: Since moving to NC both the beach and the mountains are a two to three hours a way and I haven’t been to either in more than three years. I especially love the mountains, but really want to spend some time near the ocean as well. I really wanted to be able to go to both this summer, or even just one (the mountains!). However, we weren’t going to be able to swing it financially. Last week, and within the span of one week, I was given the opportunity to not only visit the beach for a day this summer, but also to take a free four-day vacation to the mountains!
    I am so excited! 🙂

To be honest, I’ve been lacking magic in my life lately. I’m been so preoccupied with so much happening in a short space of time, I’ve been letting life pass me by without much notice. I’m definitely aware that I need to slow down a bit and soak up life around me. I had a great night out last night with friends from my theatre company and I woke up today feeling much more positive than I have been. Show me the Magic!

What an incredible find! I guess the trick is being open to the universe speaking to you – being in tune I guess.

I doooo love those moments!! Although I also worry that I am too flutter brained and distracted to actually notice them! I would be sad to miss out on those moments that would mean so much.

    Amazing! Completely amazing!

My latest everyday magic is my boyfriend proposing to me! Not only that though, we hadn’t even talked about marriage, but about 20 minutes before he popped the question, I just KNEW that things would unfold this way! Thats been my clearest message from my intuition/higher self/etc so I hope I can keep myself open to ‘knowing’ other things in the future – particularly my creative path.
