happiness in abundance

Mar 4, 2006 | Life in Progress

my smile is huge right now and my heart is exploding with pride, joy, excitement. john heard this morning that he was accepted to the Samuel Merritt CRNA program in Oakland/Berkeley California! all the effort these last several months. all the disappointment along the way. endless studying for the GRE. application deadlines. the pressure during the interviewing process. getting through organic chem last summer while missing out on all the surfing. changing jobs from ER to ICU. all the anticipation and worry and concern. it was all worth it. this is the very best program for john and all the “no’s” from the other programs were just to distract us from this whole process being born into the absolute best scenario we could have asked for. it’s top 10 in the nation for nurse anesthesia with the very best educators in the country. it’s on the west coast. it’s berkeley. it’s sunny and warm. there’s surf just down the road. there’s art everywhere there. there’s bart so we can still manage with one car. we just can’t believe it. it feels like both of our lives are fully going in the direction we’ve always dreamt about. it’s incredibly encouraging. and i am so full of gratitude i can barely stand it. it was all worth it.

Sending much love,

Yay! Congrats to John for being accepted. You’ll have to let me know what to expect because I’ve been seriously considering doing the Nurse Anaesteshia program myself eventually…so cool! Plus Scott is from Oakland so when we come out for family trips maybe we will see you guys more often! Love, Kristin

Kelly, if you’re confused, I accidentally logged in under Jim’s name above. That’s from me! Oops.

Wow, Kelly, fantastic! I guess I should have checked your blog before I emailed you just now! Fantastic news, just great. Though I am a little sad to lose a newly discovered Portlander to Oakland! I’m sure I told you that Jim and I moved here from Oakland — I lived in Oakland/Berkeley for about 10 years, and if you have any questions, please let me know! The Lakeshore area of Lake Merritt is a great place to live – good restaurants, cafes, bookstores, etc, very villagey feeling, but also really close to downtown Oakland’s Chinatown and jazz clubs.

Also, about your Mac on your last post — again my email was lagging behind. The info I gave you about the web design software will work with your Mac — we also have all the Mac software if you’re needing anything, Photoshop, etc! Welcome to the world of Macintosh!

    (again, congrats to John!)

That’s terrific Kelly! Please give John my congratulations. While I’m selfishly disappointed you aren’t coming to the east coast, I am thrilled that he got into such a great program and that you will be in another super cool part of the country. I will look forward to coming to visit!
