Home Tour: True’s Room!

Oct 27, 2015 | Home + Studio Tours

Today I’m sharing a tour of True’s room. It was one of the first rooms to come together, and we love how it turned out. Come take a peek…
This is what the room looked like when we bought the house:

And this is what it looks like now:

We painted the walls True’s favorite color (specifically Marlboro Blue by Benji Moore paint). We also brought over one of our favorite vintage light fixtures from the old house. We love it here in this space. For toy storage, we use the closet, the dresser, baskets under the bed, and baskets throughout the room. Simple and perfect.
The orange striped curtains were made by my mom (thanks, mom!) and the fabric came from Fabric.com.
Did you know that you can get a poster photo made in an hour at Walgreens? I really wanted to bring in some elements of black and white, hence this photo and black focal wall art above True’s bed.
The rusty vintage green bed is the bed that John and I used to sleep on for years. I love love love that it’s True’s bed now. The art above True’s bed is this print of mine that I had blown up into a wall canvas.

The giraffe piece is by my friend Jennifer Mercede. I’m obsessed with her work. We use this giraffe piece as a growth chart. Love.

This bookshelf. It has had many, many homes. John made it for me from reclaimed wood back in 2006 when I was starting to paint. I needed a place to store my supplies and it had a special spot in my first couple of studios. It has a lot of sentimental value to us and I love that it now holds True’s books (clearly, we are not tidy book storers) and other toys.

The chair in the corner is vintage, from the 40s or 50s. It once belonged to John’s aunt. He has fond memories of sitting in this chair at her house as a kid. I love that we have it here in True’s room. The “True love” painting is a gift from another one of my favorite artist friends, Pam Garrison.

We hung up some of his artwork with washi tape. Love the imperfectness of that.
Sock monkeys and lovies. And hot air balloons. I cannot remember for the life of me where I found these (so sorry!).
I printed the large version of my Dear Child Manifesto and hung it up in his room along with some other sweet photos.
And there you have it! I loved putting this room together. It’s been a long time since we did it, but if you’re interested in seeing True’s reaction when he saw it for the first time decorated, you can check out that video here (SO CUTE and also, he’s grown so much since then!).
For those of you interested in the other room tours, here’s what I’ve got:

Sending much love,
