Imperfect is still progress and that is worth celebrating.

Wellness journey update: It’s been almost two years of consistently sweating it out, ya’ll. I am proud of myself for making this lifestyle change. I really, really am. I have learned that there is no destination (“When I lose xyz pounds, I’ll reward myself with ______” or “I’ll be happy when my arms don’t jiggle so much.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is only showing up with no other promise than to know what it feels like to show up for yourself. Even if the weight doesn’t budge. Even if the arms still like to jiggle (aka giggle in joy). Even if results are all inner vs outer. It’s self-care in motion. It’s self-respect/kindness/compassion in motion. It’s self-acceptance, too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have weeks where I barely sweat and other weeks where I sweat it out a lot. I now trust the ebbs and flows, which has been a big kindness journey for me of understanding that it’s not all or nothing, that I can have a hard week and still show up the following week without feeling like I’ve failed, that doing the best I can looks differently each week, that despite slow progress, it’s still progress.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know this wellness journey is all encompassing. It’s fitness, yes, but it’s also food, and it’s also mind health, and spiritual health. I am grateful for all the ways in which this wellness journey continues to sustain and teach me. It’s not easy, but I am grateful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The two essential things that have made this journey sustainable for two years(ish) so far: self-kindness and loving accountability.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I will continue to fail and fall and do this with crazy amounts of imperfections. But I also know (now) that I will continue to get up and get after it with consistency. And I owe that to self-kindness and the loving accountability I receive from my friends and community (you!) who are also on this journey of showing up for ourselves.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s to showing up for yourself, ya’ll. Imperfect is still progress and that is worth celebrating.

PS: Many of you have been following my personal wellness journey (soul care! self-compassion! healthier food choices! fitness!) over the years, most recently my physical fitness journey. These practices have changed my life, and I know – deeply deeply know – that we can love our bodies (mind, body, and spirit) with conscious and intentional care, one small move at a time.
