Embracing imperfection on and off the canvas.

Jul 9, 2019 | Life in Progress, My Creative Practice

When I 30 years old and I – someone with zero art background – starting putting paint and glue and paper down on canvases for the first time, something magically shifted for me.

I’ve now been living a creative life for 14 years and the learnings keep coming:

It’s okay to unleash your joy. In fact, it’s necessary to remember and rediscover it along the way so it can light the path.

Embrace the mess and trust yourself enough to see it all the way through.

Make a bold move and surprise yourself.

Give yourself permission to do it differently.

There are no mistakes, no failures.

AND SO MUCH MORE!

I have struggled with some form of anxiety my whole life, but nothing has helped me let go and fall into the soft landing and ease of living like making art has. The holy imperfection (and vulnerability) that is required when creating a painting has been a sacred portal for me to embrace imperfection (and vulnerability) off the canvas. It’s been magic. It’s been a wild adventure. But mostly, it’s been Love.

Here’s what I know to be true, whether we are conscious of it or not: When we let art out, we let love IN.

Sending messy, artful love to you. May you embrace your creativity as a way INTO the brightest, most conscious and authentic version of you.

Big love, Kelly Rae

Sending much love,
