Those grubby little boy fingernails. His obsession with learning cursive. His proud stance of showing his work. I adore everything about this photo. And everything about parenting a sweet, sensitive, sometimes sassy, determined, chatty, always moving six year old.

The scene last week when @annamiekaart came over for a collaborative art date for an episode of Kelly Rae Unscripted. Weekly art dates with you guys is my top 3 favorite thing I do each week.

I have a clear color love story happening. Finishing up these lovelies today. Gonna have a big big original painting sale in early 2017 as I’ve got quite growing collection!

True has a five week Winter Break (add in the snow days from last week, and it’s more like a six weeks!). It’s long as his outdoor school considers the seasons, weather, harvest, etc. We LOVE the idea of a longer break. It not only allows us some breathing room for travel, activities, and togetherness, but it forces me to also take a much needed break from work. 2016 has given us so much. New routines. Many MANY lessons. New teachers (in all forms). The abundance has been plenty. And I’m super grateful for this extra long break to rest, reflect, have some fun, and bliss out with the people I love.

One of the many things I love about True: he insists that we all always get in the photo.

Found this beauty in the woods yesterday. How charming is he? Sending out warm wishes to all of you whether you are celebrating or grieving or struggling through. This can be a hard time of year for many (I remember those seasons well) and I find myself thinking of you, wishing comfort and peace for your hearts.

It’s hard to see, but his letter says (in three different colors), “Dear Santa, enjoy the cookies. Can you please fix Sockdog (no patches)? Love, True.” Friends, what do you think? Can Santa perform a small Christmas miracle and repair True’s beloved Sockdog WITHOUT more patches?

A little boy’s Christmas Miracle came true today. See previous post for Part One. Part Two: True woke up this morning with a letter from the “Official Office of Santa Claus.” It read, “Dear True Elio Orlando, I received your letter about your beloved Sockdog and how you wished I could repair him. I know you’ve had him since you were a tiny baby, and like The Velveteen Rabbit, you’ve loved him so well that he’s quite worn. You’ve been such a good boy and I’m delighted to tell you that I present to you a fully repaired Sockdog! While I repairing him, he had a wish: to make him bigger as he wanted to grow alongside you. Sockdog has been such a good dog that I granted his wish, too! May you always love one another and Merry Christmas! Love, Santa. PS: I hope you don’t mind, but I left two of the heart patches.”

We put our Christmas decor up the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is a long time. Yesterday we took it all down and fluffed the house a bit. Gotta say. It was so nice to wake up today to less clutter and a clean slate. Tomorrow I head back to work for a couple days before breaking again for a family vacation. Loving these days.

Selfie in the studio. Feels good to get back to work a little, filming for Kelly Rae Unscripted, and painting a bit. Also, my hair has grown out a bit, which means curls.

Hi Kelly Rae, I just read your blog and wanted you to know how it makes me smile and inspired. I love it that True wants to learn cursive, it’s said that it’s not taught in most schools. Please tell him, I could read his name just fine, GREAT JOB!
We have two older bull dogs …. Ms Zoey who is 11 and Rowdy who is almost 8, they bring so much joy to our lives. My husband and I retired at the end of 2010 and have never looked back. We do not have children but have had a great life.
I have enjoyed your work for awhile now, I have purchased some of your items for gifts to special friends. I love your art work because makes me happy.
