I’ve been Inspiration Bombed! Plus, a convo with Clare Bowditch

:: Everyone, meet my new friend Clare ::

Still sick in bed but feeling a little better and going through photos. One of the highlights of the last couple of days was spending some time with @clarebowditch. Total #kindred. Love making new friends who are doing and creating magic!

Earlier this year, I randomly sat next to a beautiful red headed woman at the opening of Jen Lee’s new documentary. We started chatting. About life. Marriage. Kids. Business. Motherhood. She had me at hello. About 30 minutes into our conversation, I knew this woman was amazing, but I had no idea exactly who she was. I just knew she spoke my language, and that I liked her. A lot. We were fast friends (don’t you LOVE it when that happens?).

When she left for a bathroom break, I quickly googled her. Ha! It turns out that the lovely amazing red headed woman I was sitting next to was Clare Bowditch, a famous (and crazy talented) musician from Australia. Among other stand out achievements, I learned that she’s been Rolling Stone’s Woman of the Year, and ARIA’s (Australia’s version of the Grammys) Best Female Artist. She’s had top ten hits, toured with Gotye, Cat Power, and Leonard Cohen, and has played to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. And, oh yes, she’s also stars in one of Australia’s most beloved TV shows!

But it doesn’t stop there. During our conversation, I also learned that she was the woman behind one of my favorite online places to visit: inspiration bombs, a brilliant part of her newest venture, Big Hearted Business. I couldn’t believe it. A woman who has a passion for art and soulful business? Count me IN! Put simply, Clare says Big Hearted Business “is all about teaching creative people about business, and business people about creativity, in ways that make sense. And in doing so, we get to live what we call Our Bigger Story: to be a living example of that fact that it is indeed possible to Do What You Love, Make Money, and Save The World (just a little bit).” LOVE THAT.

The next day Clare came to my studio and we continued our conversation around motherhood and business and art and money and all of it. She interviewed me for one of her inspiration bombs and I’m honored to be one of her features. I asked Clare if I could interview her via Skype for this Motherhood + Biz blog series and I’m so glad she agreed. Below is our recorded conversation. Please note: the video quality isn’t the best, and I’m not a great interviewer, but what you’ll find is a real deal true blue honest peek into the life of someone who is navigating business and motherhood very authentically and beautifully. And you’ll find silliness. Lots of that, too.
