Home Tour: Our Modern Farmhouse Colorful Kitchen!

Oct 28, 2019 | Home + Studio Tours

Hi friends!

I thought I’d give you a tour of our kitchen! The only other room tour that I’ve done of this new home is our living room, which you can find right here.

We’ve been in our new home and town (Sisters, Oregon) for about 6 months now and as time marches on, the space is starting to feel more lived in, layered up, and cozy. Remember when all of this one under construction? Feels like so long ago now.

This kitchen is one big square and it has a lot of natural light (we upgraded to have as many windows as possible).

One of the things we really wanted to bring into this space was COLOR. Because it’s an open floor plan with the living room and the kitchen considered one big Great Room, we needed to be sure all the colors and materials played well with one another.

So with all of that in mind, we chose a lovely shade of blue for our tile (from ColorTile, source links below) in a herringbone pattern, which I love love love.

We also chose to go with open shelving (vs cabinets), which allowed us to bring in a bit more of the wood elements that are throughout the home. And of course, it gave us an opportunity to bring in more shiplap and color (art!, dishes! vases!), which are both big features in the living room.

John was able to get his dream stove/oven, which he uses (and LOVES) constantly throughout the day.

We found our inspiration for the hood on Pinterest, and I love. It’s simple, pretty.

This view makes me really happy.

Often, John is cooking in the kitchen while True and I are in the living room or at the island. It really doesn’t feel like one big space yet separate, too.

The runner pulls together alllll the colors…

One thing I’ve been playing with in this new house is blending lots of grey and white and wood elements with colorful geometric and florals. It’s totally making me happy. The runner does a great job marrying the colorful floral wallpaper in the adjacent dining room to the kitchen.

Love!

Behind the barn doors is a small home office that holds a built-in desk and shelves. The cabinets on either side have proven to be awesome storage.

Sources!

LIghts:
The big light above the island is from Restoration Hardware. I love the mix of fresh linen with the iron.

The one-armed sconces above the open shelving are from Wayfair, right here. I LOVE the mix of metals.

Counters
The counters are Pental Quartz in Avenza. Really happy with the amount of gray veins.

Paint
The island is painted Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore

The shiplap/walls are Fondant by Miller

Tile
We bought our blue backsplash tiles at ColorTile. I wish I knew the name of the manufacturer! They are a little textured, creating a hand-made look.

Rugs
The runner is from Rugs USA, right here.

The small rug in front of the sink is Rifle Paper, right here.

Wallpaper
The wallpaper in the adjacent dining room is by artist Nathalie Lete, available here.

Painting
The beautiful painting sitting atop the open shelving is an original from Pam Garrison. Love her work!

Sending much love,

Hi Kelly Rae! The jar with the water & plants — what type of plant is that that can live submerged? It looks lovely!

Hi Shelby, that was our fish bowl at the time with fake greens for him to swim in and around 🙂

      Hi Kelly,
We are building a home in Wyoming. After visiting your home tour (amazing) on your your blog I would like to do similar wood look floors. Do you happen to know what brand & product LVP (luxury vinyl plank) floors you have in your home? Thanks for sharing

Hi Molly, I know the wood is not laminate, but I have no idea of the brand/color. I’m so sorry! I wish you the best as you build your home. It’s a huge undertaking, so many details and possibility. Enjoy it!

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing, artsy home with us! We just bought our dream fixer upper and I am desperately trying to find Your blue backsplash tiles. Do you have a website maybe for the tile company please? I haven’t found anything even close on the Tile shop site. I love the texture and shine of the backsplash. I know you are super busy but would love any extra clues as how to find your exact tile 😘

      Hi Nikki,
we ordered them from Color Tile in Bend, OR. I wonder if you sent them a photo, they would be able to identify them?

      Hi Denise,
      Thanks for the kindness!
The open/floating shelves are custom made from the cabinet maker:).

As for deciding what to let go, I just saved the things I ABSOLUTELY could not live without and let the rest go. No regrets. GOod luck on your remodel!!

I can’t believe how generous you are to share your absolutely perfect kitchen with your fans including where you found your special pieces that really truly make your home so special and so YOU! I ABSOLUTELY adore the tile color and pattern, and of course the shiplap, the counters are exactly what I would have picked, the barn doors, (I mean who doesn’t love barn doors!!?), the runner really does tie all the colors together… It’s as if it was all meant for each other. Thank you again for sharing your family’s home!
