Weekly Update – Simplicity of the Season

Dec 7, 2017 | Life in Progress

I’m obsessed with Instagram – it’s my favorite online home! Here’s a recap from the last week, and for those of you who aren’t on Instagram, come and join me!

Thursday, November 30

I’ve been doodling more than usual lately. I’m loving how weird they are, how I never know what will come out. I’ve been doodling mainly when I’m listening to a good podcast (by the way, what are your favorite podcasts? I’d love to know) or having a convo with a friend on the phone. DO you doodle? If so, what do you doodle most of the time? Shapes? Flowers? Letters?

Tell me about your doodles. And your favorite podcast 😉

These two fur babies. It’s been about a month since we brought little Amelia home. She’s 12 weeks now and doing great. Definitely having some potty training issues, but she’ll get it soon enough. Lulu has been an amazing big sister (thank goodness). They are always together, have super similar mannerisms (they both sleep in the exact same position with their left legs stretched out), and seem to really enjoy one another. Tons of playing. For those of you interested in seeing videos and more photos of these babes, head over to @ameliaandlulu where I try and post often. Xxo

I’ve been upping my smoothie bowl game lately, thanks to John’s inspiration. The base for this one is spinach, berries, protein powder, and ice – all in the Vitamix. He topped it with granola, banana, chia seeds, and flax.

It’s not uncommon that I’ll be in my tiny art studio and John will pop in with one of these bowls. LOVE and majorly grateful as it adds so much to my ongoing wellness goals. The support is everything.

He called a family meeting last week to include us in his resolution to be dairy-free. As the primary cook in our family, this feels like a big deal. True and I were totally on board and we’ve already noticed in just a week’s time that True’s ongoing mysterious cough is completely gone.

Do you do smoothie bowls? If so, what are your favorite go-to recipes? I’d super love to know.

We opted out of bringing out all the holiday decorations this year. Instead, we’re going for simple with just the tree and a little wee center piece on the dining room table. No garland on the mantel or stairwell this year. No display of our vintage bottle tree collection or nutcrackers or or or.

After such a full Autumn, I’m craving simple and sweet. Luckily, my family agrees. I think there areseasons for going all out and there are seasons for reigning it in. For the first time in years, it feels good to declare it a season of reigning it in.

Where are you at this year? All out? Or simplified? Whatever the case, I hope you are celebrating the small magic, the big magic, and all the in betweens of the beauty of the season.

And for those of you who are in a season of grief or hardship, let the rest of us hold you up, honor your hearts, and give you full permission to opt out completely for the sake of taking care of your heart.

Honestly, can you stand it?

Friends, we sold out of all the originals in 23 minutes. This is the text msg Nichole sent me and the gif that I replied with (someone falling out of their chair after so much anticipation and nervous energy). THANK YOU for supporting the very heart and core of what I do. I am in deep gratitude.

Sending much love,

We are going simple on decorations this year, too…..with our new kitten, Ariel….8 months old but still very much a curious kitty, everything is a cat toy….low branches on the tree will have sturdy ornaments!!!! And the little Christmasy knick-knacks will stay in their boxes. Table center piece ( advent candles), star in window and electric candles in the Windows . Lol, we are wall to wall cat toys, watch your step! Also, it fits with our efforts to live more Lagom!
