on not knowing

“gentle kindness”

the last several days have been one coincidence after the next. a friend calling at the very moment i was going to call them. receiving an email from someone that i was sending an email to at that very same time. and more. i absolutely love coincidences. to me, it’s the universe reminding me to lighten up, to relax, to revel in the mysteries.

today, i went for a walk. because i needed to feel lighter. more engaged. less alone. i am doing something i’ve never done before (the writing of a manuscript) and i must be honest and tell you how enormous this feels on my heart. in the spaces between excitement and joy live gigantic pressure. and perfectionism. and emotion. and questions. and worry about time commitments. i know you must be tired of my ramblings about it, but this is where i stand today. this is my story today.

back to coincidences and messages…so, today as i worried over questions like “am i on the right path? in life and in this book?”, i sat down at a local cafe and ate a very yummy avocado sandwich. as i ate, i picked up an unfamiliar local magazine called common ground. curious, i flipped it open and this is what i read:

on knowing whether or not you’re on the right path:

“one doesn’t know. it’s a beautiful spiritual paradox…there’s a lot of suffering in thinking you should know and be right and figure things out and that sort of thing. when we our out there in ego, we believe we can know and should know. when we come back to center, we realize that we don’t know and we don’t need to know. so it’s a coming back to center that has us on the right path. the tricky part about that is that when you’re centered, you don’t know it. as soon as you hear someone say, ‘ahhh, i’m centered’, you can know they’ve identified with an ego that thinks it knows something,” – cheri huber, author of there is nothing wrong with you.

another message from the universe, i laughed. the point is is that we don’t have to know. it’s that simple and profound. we. don’t. have. to. know.

Sending much love,

mmmmmmmmmm…. with all these coincidences i think you are finally on the path that you are meant to be on. Have you read the alchemist or the celestine prophercy these 2 books had a huge impact on me. Everything happens for a reason.

I am on the same path as some of you guys and in the last week started to realise that if i just do what it is i love and grow with that then things will start to happen. And guess what? They did!

PS just flicked through CPS and thanks for the great little tut. Now where are my paint brushes……..

What I love is how many people have shared that this was the exact thing that they needed to hear . . . their own coincidence for the day. You sure inspire so many with this brave road you walk each day!

PS: Ever since you posted that hilarious story about McDonalds the other day (which made me laugh out loud — twice — and then giggle again when I told it to my hub), I’ve had the jones for McD’s fries and a coke. Now, after not eating McDonalds for about 10 years myself, I’ve eaten there three times this week! I want to be grossed out by this fact — their food is so bad for the body! — but instead I choose to laugh about how your story makes its way into my daily life all the way across the country. (I live in Florida.)

Hopefully you get a kick out of that as much as I do. 🙂

Loved your article in Cloth Paper scissors. I often struggle with “not knowing” the right path, but we always seem to find our way.

My thoughts about this recently are that there really is only one path for each of us and there may be tributaries from this path, but there is only one path and we can’t get off the path-UNLESS we choose to get lost in drugs or something like that and for some that actually is their path.

The other thought is that we don’t know what will be, we can only be as clear and present in the moment as we can be.

    Hugs to all, Jill

This is a mantra I have been embracing quite fervently over the past month or so, and it isn’t easy! I feel like I look like a big sloth on the outside, but inside I am exploring all the possibilities that begin from the same place: not knowing.

I’v’e almost finished my teaching qualifications, and next year is an open book: I can apply anywhere, and I have planned to move out of my house before I know where I’m going. Sometimes I have moments of panic about what will happen, and then I just need to keep reminding myself that If I keep moving, and trust the process, the right next step will emerge.
Your post is very timeley for me.

Beautiful post ~ and I so needed it today also! Yesterday was my last day of my 8-5 job. Today I’m stricking out on my own and wondering if I’m doing the right thing…
Thank you for these words today. Good luck and peace to you on your new journey…

You just nailed this so perfectly. I ask myself these same types of questions just about everyday concerning both the creative journey as well as my entire life journey…and the thing is…we don’t know. And that is okay…um…sometimes. 😉 Thank you for the beautiful and gentle reminder and may tomorrow be another day of happy surprises!

Oh, kelly rae, my coincidence for the day is that you wrote this message!

I really needed to hear what you have written, right at this moment.

And, I don’t believe that there are any coincidences. Your book is sure to be a wonder, can’t wait to read it,

as always, very proud (and in awe)of you,
    Gwen

Even the thought of writing a book seems so immense. It’s good to hear you’re taking good care of yourself in the process and not letting expectations overwhelm you.

Not knowing is so hard – whether it’s the right path or choices or hard decisions. My guess is that you’re doing the exact right thing. The evidence is all around you.
