simple DIY stool project + other thoughts

Aug 16, 2010 | Home + Studio Tours

i dropped off my parents at the airport earlier today. i was sad to see them go. i simply cannot believe all that they helped us accomplish with this move and unpacking and building and painting and organizing and making our new house a home – i’m going to share some of the projects we did this week, starting with a simple DIY project today. the whole time they were here i battled the gremlins of i’m asking for too much, they are working too hard, how will we ever repay them. i did my best to simply accept the help and receive. thank you mom, and greggie!!

after dropping them off at the airport, i came home to an empty home – for the first time ever, i was alone in the new place. it felt strange yet exciting yet lonely yet full. i can’t decide if i’m in shock or disbelief or what, but i’m having trouble recognizing that this beautiful, beautiful space is our actual home. that we did this, that we survived the remodel experience, that we are still in tact – even with all the hard work ahead of us. i’m trying hard to take it all in. what i love best about this place is that it’s fairly simple, and small and cozy. and that it’s permanent. that permanent piece is huge. i love knowing that we won’t be moving next year or the year after that or any time soon…finally, we are indeed home.
i wanted to share a simple DIY project that my mom did while she was here:

i bought this stool at the local vintage store for $20. i thought it was pretty cute just the way it was, until my mom had an idea…..

she took one of my aprons and tied it to the stool to give it an adorable skirt. LOVE! apron came from pier 1, by the way. how seriously cute of an idea is that??

Sending much love,
