Hello, tenderness.

Apr 9, 2020 | Life in Progress

For as long as I’ve been making art and telling my stories online (circa 2006!), it’s been important to me to tell them honestly. I have a strong value on being brave in times of celebration (not playing small, dimming my/your light) as well as being brave in sadness when life feels painful. It all matters, it’s all beautiful. And we are meant for the journey of it ALL.

I’ve been so weepy and tender this week as the pain and impact of covid continue to hit the greater world as well as my small little world.

Like so many artists and small businesses out there, I am pivoting and brainstorming and working to recover significant amounts of lost income. My Possibilitarian heart has very deep pockets of trust, but still, it is a lot to hold. The letting go of projects and plans that were birthed with hard work. The SBA loan process. The frustration of cancellation insurance not working in your favor. The uncertainty when it comes to opening a retail store during this time. The homeschooling during it all.

Meanwhile, people are very sick and have lost so much already. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it all. And I’m also very clear on my privilege during all of this, too. So many people don’t have the privilege to stay home.

I know I’m not alone and I stand with each of you as we navigate this together. I’m also sending out boatloads of gratitude for everyone on the front lines who are showing up with great courage. I’m in awe.

Every crisis brings forth millions of tiny opportunities.

The opportunity to trust. To cry. To ask for what is needed. To circle up. To fight. To recalibrate and make different choices. To get curious. To embrace our vulnerabilities. To connect. To let go. To recover. To build. To not build. To receive. To give. To love and be love. And more.

The opportunity I’ve taken the last couple of days is to simply sit with the hard and painful. To just be with it. To feel it. To feel it deeply.

I’m sending you all much love. Here’s to all the tiny miracles and opportunities that are arriving for each of us.

Big love, Kelly Rae
