When I signed up for my friend Annamieka’s Let’s Go Deep program late last year (you can read more about my decision here), my creative soul was in deep need of rejuvenation. Leading up to starting the program, I had slowly quieted my life, including quitting social media, not over-booking/working, retiring all of my ecources (yes, all!), and generally getting my life as simplified as possible during pandemic times. It had been a long long time since I just simply painted and I was so ready to embark on a new creative journey. And I was super excited to take off my teacher/boss hat and put on my student hat.
I wasn’t sure what would come out of me, but I knew I wanted to explore painting big, painting new imagery, new colors, new textures, and more.
Above is the first painting I created while working The Let’s Go Deep program. It’s big at 5′ x 2.5′.
I’m having FUN.
I’m experimenting.
I’m doodling.
I’m playing.
I’m getting loose.
Back in the early years of my creative journey, I recall a lovely distinct feeling. Part exhilaration. Part frightening. Part vulnerable. Part kid on a Christmas morning.
This is what this is feeling like. I have missed this feeling. And it feels really wonderful to nurture her again.
Also, flowers, please.
And paint.
And paper.
And doodles.
Forever and amen.

I signed up for your newsletter because your podcast with Jeanne Oliver really resonated. I had a desire to “stop the scroll” in favor of more intimate time with a community of like minded creatives and women. I am happy to keep being inspired by you. I met you at Donna Downeys retreat (can’t even remember the name of it!!) And it was a moment for me. I had never heard of you. But your keynote just spoke to me. While I did not change my job, or really my life direction, I did bring in more joy and inspiration. Your vibe (choose what makes you happy) even inspired my recent kitchen remodel. Anyway, this is a long way to just simply say thank you. While I am not a big pocketed purchaser (public teacher life…lol) I have enjoyed your work and your energy over the last decade +. Hopefully this did not sound creepy and overly fangirl-ish. Hahaha
Lorrie, this made my day, your kindness. Donna’s retreat was called Inspired I think? And it was waaaaaay back in 2009! I love that the thread of connection continues to live :). And here’s to joyful kitchen remodels, too! Big hugs, Kelly Rae
Enjoy reading your blog and seeing your lovely art.
