Currently heading home from a summer trip back Eas Currently heading home from a summer trip back East. First stop: Charleston to see my dear @matiroseart. Fun fact: I recently learned that my maternal ancestors arrived in Charleston in the early 1700s, and they’re all buried in the old Episcopalian church downtown.

I’m a Southern girl and it’s always fun to get back anywhere in the South.

Mati and I wandered the downtown streets, ate all the Southern food, swam in the Atlantic, and soaked in SC vibes of girlie ruffle fashion.

From there, we headed to Mati’s hometown in Maine (my first time to Maine!) for lobster rolls, ocean walks, and the homespun dream of her childhood home.

Feeling full of connection, history, and joy. And heading home with a full heart and tons of inspiration.

Any Southerners out there? Loved Charleston!
The world feels like it’s on fire. It’s dense. The world feels like it’s on fire. It’s dense. Grief-filled. Ache-filled. And still, joy finds us.

A small moment.
A burst of color.
A laugh that sneaks up and surprises us.

These are not small things. They’re how we remember what’s still possible. How we come back to life.

This painting was born from one of those moments, a flicker of delight that moved through me and onto the canvas. I felt its medicine fully.

Allowing our joy to buoy us is how we survive, how our light sings into the world and joins arms with others putting their medicine into the world, too. A mighty resistance of harmonizing with hope.

Painting this summer has felt a little defiant, like my own tiny quiet rebellion, one joyful, happy painting at a time.

May we keep making beauty anyway.
May our joy be both refuge and resistance. And may it be medicine for ourselves, and the world.

This is how hope gets harmonized into the world.

BIG LOVE, Kelly Rae

Update: this piece has sold. I’ve had creative Update: this piece has sold.

I’ve had creative seasons marked by incredible commercial success.
Those were wild years, often feeling like I was being swept along on some cosmic, life-defining ride, holding on for dear life. Product in stores nationwide. Signing events. Magazine articles. Books. All the things.

I’ve also weathered countless seasons of doubt and creative dry spells.
There have been times I seriously considered trading art for something more stable, like a part-time job, just to relieve the pressure.

And in hindsight, I can many moments of self-betrayal, too, along the creative path. Small decisions made from fear or uncertainty instead of truth. I still carry a quiet ache for those moments.

And of course, there have been seasons of pure creative grace, where the work flowed like water from some sunlit current, carrying me gently, offering magic.

All of it matters.

In this season, I feel more connected to my journey as an artist than I ever have. Not as a career, but as a way of being.

I write.
I paint.
I wear clothes that align with my spirit.
I decorate my joy.
I honor the beautiful strangeness of how my mind works in the world.

I. Am. An. Artist.

Turns out, aging as an artist is such a gift. I can feel myself letting go of the chase for relevance and instead tuning into resonance.

To the singularity of this life.
To the creative sovereignty of fully embodying it.

It’s no longer about output or approval.
It’s about alignment.

I want to make only what only I can make.
Energetically.
Literally.
Wholly.

This is the place from which this latest beauty was born. A season unlike any before. New. Happy. Me.

🙏🏼P.S. I’m working on a new series of original paintings. If you think you might like to bring one home, comment “painting” below and I’ll send you a DM with the details. I’d love for them to find homes where they’ll be treasured.
Alittle peek at what I’ve been wearing lately. O Alittle peek at what I’ve been wearing lately. Outfits that feel aligned with the energy I want to embody this season. Playful. Light. Unfussy. Alive.

What are you reaching for in your closet these days? What energy are your clothes helping you hold?
