Lately I’ve been narrating my life out loud. Like, Lately I’ve been narrating my life out loud. Like, out loud out loud. Like I’m talking to myself (which, I am!). I catch myself doing it while I’m making morning tea, driving, or even in the shower. It’s become this quiet little practice of self-witnessing as I find myself stepping into a whole new era.

There’s something about this “love narration” that gently interrupts my everything-sucks mind loop and brings me back to what is actually true, real, and beautiful. I hear myself saying things like, “You live in a beautiful home you purchased by making art,” or “You have an awesome teen who is completely devoted to making his room as cozy as possible with books and plants,” and I just keep going from there.

I start to see my life as if I’m standing just outside of it, noticing it with fresh eyes. I talk about my work and my sense of purpose. I name how lucky I’ve been in partnership, in friendship, in the life I’ve built. I even find myself speaking out loud about how deeply I’ve been loved by an English Bulldog I still miss every single day.

Narrating my life in this way helps shift my attention. Instead of my mind doing what it usually does (scanning for what’s not working or what needs fixing), I get rooted in what is already here and already meaningful.
As someone who often lives in progress mode, always moving toward what’s next or trying to solve the next problem, it feels surprisingly nourishing to pause and sit with what has already been created and to literally say it out loud. In full sentences.

I’m curious if you’ve ever done this? Have you ever narrated your own life out loud, just to yourself, and let yourself really hear it?

xoxo, Kelly Rae

PS: including some recent art!
PPS: thanks for the love on my recent post about making bad art. Its a new fave creative practice for sure and I’ll keep sharing it;)
Well friends. The Perimenopause gifts just keep on Well friends. The Perimenopause gifts just keep on giving. One of them being to stop trying so hard and just play and experiment and make a ton of bad art in the process! I’m having fun and can’t wait to see where this leads to next. I might have a wonky art era emerging!

Anyone else making bad art and having the best time doing it????
Hi friends! I haven’t posted any of my art here la Hi friends! I haven’t posted any of my art here lately, so I thought that I would share a few of my favorites right now that were created in the spirit of expanding my sense of what is possible in my own life.

Lately, I’ve been playing with art in my art journal - art that doesn’t feature words or text (new for me! ), but I’m learning that the storytelling lives in the process, and the discovery, and the exploration of simply making marks and playing with color. I am leading with desire instead of what I I think my spirit needs to hear, if that makes sense!

That said, I will always have a soft spot for art plus words. I’ve been creating this way for almost 20 years, asking myself over and over what it is my heart most needs to hear, and then making it into a piece of art in hopes that other people’s hearts might need to hear the same thing. I still find that such a beautiful process, and one that feels so connecting to other women.

Anyways! Big love, always!
Xo, Kelly Rae
Wearing my joy over here! Still chilly and making Wearing my joy over here! Still chilly and making the most of it. Also, a friend sent me these bright red tights and who knew? I’m INTO it! ❤️❤️
It’s hard for me to spend much time on IG and FB. It’s hard for me to spend much time on IG and FB. Half doom and gloom, half perfect lives. And most of the time, I leave feeling a little worse about my own.

I also find myself wondering about what I share here. Is it too much? Too heavy? Too repetitive? Not repetitive enough? Sometimes I feel all over the place with my posts:
Midlife & perimenopause musings. Healing work. Art & Creativity. Outfits. Repeat.

AND yet, even with the insecurities of Who cares and Why bother, there’s a quieter, steadier voice inside that udges me to keep showing up. To share the joy and the tenderness and the art and the uncertainty of this life unfolding.

That creating and sharing is enough, even if just for the sake of the process and being alive in it.

With this spirit, I share this post.

Thank you for being here. I adore this community. May we take deep care of ourselves and each other.

XO, Kelly Rae
I’m here for the playful 50s era. Who’s IN? For al I’m here for the playful 50s era. Who’s IN? For all the not so wonderful parts about perimenopause, I have to say that I am enjoying the possibility of what is rising up, the creativity that is coming forth, the aliveness that seems to be at a deeper level. I feel like a younger version of myself, playing with her hair with her extra free time, putting together outfits, making space for writing, journaling, art,. I like it here! I think I’m gonna love this era! Manifesting the idea of HOW GOOD CAN IT GET!
