This is a photo of me in 2007. I was living in a little rental apartment in Oakland, California. John was getting his graduate degree, and I was a budding artist. I had just purchased my first Mac laptop, and I was trying to figure out how to start an art business.

I had no idea how to do much of anything. I knew how to make a painting, scan it in, and turn it into a print, and I barely knew how to do that.
I had so many questions.
How do I actually find people who want to purchase my work?
Where are they?
How do I sell my art and courses without feeling weird or salesy?
How do I stay authentic while also growing my traffic and visibility?
Over the years, all twenty of them (!!), I’ve been asked all kinds of questions about running a creative business:

How do I build a brand?
How do I license my work?
But the most common question, and the one that comes up again and again, is about how I’ve built visibility that feels authentic and actually translates into connection, trust, and sustainable sales.
I always knew marketing had to feel human to work for me. What I didn’t always realize was how much clarity and structure I needed to create EASE.
