Inspire Me Thursday – self portrait

Feb 27, 2006 | Life in Progress

This is my very first attempt at a self portrait. It’s an acrylic painting on 8×10 canvas. It’s nice to try new things, so thank you Inspire Me Thursday for just that: the inspiration.

Sending much love,

I really like the open exuberance of your face – big eyes, full mouth, red hair. The whole composition is warm and inviting…good job:>

Do you notice in yoga that when you look at your face in the mirror it is not symmetrical…one side is more squished than the other, maybe your eyelid droops a little more than one etc?? Why is our heart on one side of our body more than the other? Internally & externally we are ever so slightly lopsided (most of us that is). I have been thinking a lot about this and your self portrait inspired me!! I really like the colors you use and that your art inspired me to verbalize…Roxanna

    Kel, I love it!
Ralph and I have been doing lots of photos lately, and I have so much trouble looking at myself in pictures. Maybe I should play around with a self-portraits, looking at myself in different ways, or how I’d like to be seen.
I love that you’ve been so creative lately. It’s totally inspiring.

Nice! I haven’t done a self-portrait since art school – I always found it such a weird and disconcerting thing to do, and I could NOT get a likeness for love or money. At the time though I was trying to draw realistically and I’ve moved away from that, so maybe I’d have more fun now.
