A little bit of this n’ that

Joy Magnet

Blurry photo but I have to tell you about Mary Elizabeth. I met her at my in-store signing event this week. 30 years ago when she was only 38 years old she had a brain aneurism. She was non-verbal for 9 months and it took three years before she was able to have assisted independence. Her younger sister took her to her home in Wisconsin and took care of her in those years but paid Mary Elizabeth’s rent back in Washington as a way of holding hope that she’d be able to return one day on her own. Her sister’s hope, intention, and dedication paid off and Mary Elizabeth eventually made her way back to Washington and has lived independently despite her permanent brain injury limitations. Fast forward 25 years and she is a big fan of my work. You guys, I wish you could have seen the purity of light and kindness in her eyes and heard her genuine enthusiasm in her voice for LIFE, for all things HOPEFUL. I’m not certain I’ve ever met someone who felt like a direct angel from source. She was so electric with emotion, looked you deep in the eyes, emphatically LIT UP. She was like a walking joy magnet and I want to be just like her when I grow up.

PS….

If this awkward family photo doesn’t make you chuckle, then I don’t even know. Please note the Santa stuffie wearing an Ironman outfit with pink roller skates and a light saber stabbing him in the wrong place. (True loved Build A Bear!). He MADE me sit on his lap. And the looks on both of our faces are priceless. Even better? When Santa asked him what he wanted he said “silly string, Doc McStuffins, a stand up bass guitar, and a beer.” AGAIN? He pulled that beer line out from last year. I have no idea why he thinks it’s so funny. All I know is that it made the awkward family photo more awkward.

Sending much love,
