“What I emphasize is for people to make choices based not on fear, but on what really gives them a sense of fulfillment.” – Pauline Rose Chance

there was a time in my life when i made decisions based on fear all of the time. i would choose what felt comfortable, what wouldn’t sting. what would bring money. what would bring the less amount of change. what would be easy. but now, as i get older and more comfortable with myself, and i know for sure what i want and what i don’t want, i make more and more decisions that aren’t centered from fear. it’s quite exhilarating and liberating when i know i’m making a decision deeply rooted in hope and faith. it feels like i’m going against the grain, against the masses, and more towards my hopes, my dreams, my self. i hope this stays for awhile, this newfound sense of decision making. some days are better than others, of course. but i’m learning. and that’s what matters.

more illustrations over here, at illustration friday.

PS – it happened again. i woke myself in the middle of the nite laughing my head off while i was dreaming. john said i had been laughing awhile. i was dreaming that i was trying on different people’s facial features. at the moment i woke myself up, i was trying on dimples that belonged to one of the Baldwin brothers (not sure which one or even if any of them actually have dimples). how silly is that?

Sending much love,

When I see your work, Kelly, I see freedom, happiness, delight, hope, fun. It's good to see that. I do not personally have that. I have fear and being alone. I hope to some day be where you are.

I love that illustration, Kel. I’m trying to embrace fearlessness now too! Moving forward with my life and trying to make decisions that will help that life I dream of unfold. And it’s working.
I don’t wake myself laughing though! Except last week when I had a cold, I snored so loud it woke both me and Ralph up and made us both laugh.

This one is my favorite so far. The message rings true for me as well. I don’t think I could have resisted purchasing this one, but it looks like someone saw the beauty first. I started keeping a private dream journal over a year ago. Dreams are truely amazing. I actually had a dream with you in it a few days ago. We were bridesmaids and you were wearing this hot pink dress and you came running up to the bride. You were amazingly happy. The dream morphed and you actually became the bride.

This is gorgeous. And you’re very courageous not to be scared of dreaming of the Baldwin Brothers’ dimples.

What a great painting. Fearless is the way to be. Too bad most of us aren’t. Lovely textures and a wonderful feeling to the painting.

I think that dreaming thing is interesting…I wish I had that ability! Fear is sticky business and difficult to overcome for me. Fear of heights? No. Sometimes you can’t make yourself learn any faster than you are! Even if you know something in your heart!

Do you know what a Sufi Dervish is? They have a saying, “Comfort is the enemy of the Dervish.” To stay comfortable actually means you are going backwards. Good for you for going forwards.
