True turned 10 and my mama heart continues to burst daily. At ten, True is a young man who loves is obsessed with skateboarding, hanging out with friends, listening to Hardy Boy audio books, playing (and eating) at Mimi and Grandpa’s house, Minecraft, and his stuffies. He is also super hilarious, and loves to make me laugh.
I’ve been showing True a ton of old videos of him, like this favorite one when I asked him what the word “Awesome” meant and lots of photos and videos from when he was little little. I’ve also been going back to my Years In Review blogposts and doing a ton of reminiscing. Gosh, motherhood has been – in many ways – without words. It has required a never ending unrelenting marathon of embodiment. Of presence. Of conscious engagement. Of patience. Of TRUST. Of playfulness.
And it’s been SO worth it. True, just by being who he is, inspires me to be a better human. Because I know he’s watching. Because I want/need to be the kind of person that I’d like him to be when he grows up. Because I want to help raise a responsible, conscious young white man in a world that needs more white men that are awake to the suffering and injustices of others. Because motherhood has required me to deepen my spiritual journey inside the framework of partnership with myself and others. And because True. Is. An. Awesome. Kid.
Thank you, motherhood. I thank my lucky stars each and everyday for this child that keeps my heart True.
I thought it would be fun to share photos from age 9 all the way back to in the belly below. Enjoy!
