redwood giants and family and a redwood heart

Jan 28, 2008 | Life in Progress

my parents are here for a visit…all the way from florida (where i grew up). such fun. we’re doing all sorts of exploring as neither one of them have ever been to san francisco. today, we went to muir woods, one of my favorite spots around here. the redwood trees are simply glorious with all their might. here they are, my mom and greggie (as i like to call my step-dad), hugging one of the giants. i am so thankful for these two in my life. no drama. just parents. aren’t they cute? my mom and i are hoping to get crafty this week. she’s the crafty queen in our family. and greggie is the most calm and relaxed person you’ll ever meet – the perfect match for my mom who is much like me…a bit energetic and task minded and sometimes all over the place.

and oh goodness, i almost peed my pants when i spotted this heart. it’s perfect. found at muir woods, perfectly shaped inside the casing of a fallen redwood. love it. a new fav. it’s nice to have my family here. i haven’t seen them in over a year which, quite frankly, seems ridiculous. my promise to myself is to not let that ever happen again. they’re getting older. i’m getting older. life is here and now.
more soon.

Sending much love,

Wishing many happy times together as you visit with your family. When all is said and done, family is what you are left with in the end. I hope you have a fantastic visit and thanks for sharing the wonderful “tree (he)art”.

I teared up reading about your family – perhaps because I have just come in from Mum’s birthday dinner. What a beautiful heart to find while you were people dear to your own heart.

I’m telling you . . . no one finds hearts like you. I thought for sure that you were a pacific girl. I, myself, am a Florida girl, transplanted to New York in 2001. Have a great week.

what an amazing “heart find”….seems particualrly fitting since you were sharing the day with people you love. and, yes, make more time to spend together….I miss my parents every day….but I am so grateful we lived near each other their last 10 years or so. you are so right….life is here and now….well said.
