Hawaii was amazing. What a great, great trip. The helicopter ride (no doors!), snorkeling with the majestic sea turtles, all of the relaxation…just what I needed. We arrived home from the trip, then just two days later we both ran our first half marathon. I cried at about mile 9, then again at the finish. I can still hardly believe I ran that distance – and much of it was uphill to boot! John finished about 40 minutes ahead of me and was there joyously and proudly snapping photos of me and my running partner Jessica when we finished. He is so sweet, hands down all I could ever need or want. He is dreamy. I’m so fortunate to have Jessica to run with. She keeps me motivated and holds me accountable to keep going. I don’t know how I became so lucky – she found me on that very first training run back in April and we’ve been running together ever since. I’m a lucky girl. And the very best part about running is actually doing something I never in a million years thought I could do. It is a wonderful, wonderful feeling.
This is my very first blog entry. I wish they wouldn’t call it ‘blog’ as i’d much prefer ‘journal.’ I feel slightly dorky doing this, but it’s such a great way for me to keep up with my friends and family. Besides, i like that this will follow me whereever i am…
Hi, Kelly Rae. I enjoy looking at the history of where one was in relation to where one “is.” The title of your book “fits” your journey as an artist, as a human “being.” Wonderful.
I was born and raised in Hawaii, and this post reminds me of the part of my heart that feels empty at times. My mom and siblings and extended family live there, and I haven’t visited in a while. My husband and I plan to visit next spring. I hope I get to swim with the honu–turtles–as you did.
Congrats on learning to fly, and deep gratitude for passing on that wisdom to the rest of us who are seeking our own flight plans.
Thanks, Kelly Rae! I hope to meet you some day.
