sanguine and altered art

Feb 5, 2006 | Life in Progress

I made this today. It’s an altered hardback book cover. the hearts are made from old tin ceiling pieces, and the wings are make from a wire/tissue paper/glitter concoction. I’ll work on the back cover later this week, and depending on how it turns out, I may submit it as one of the pieces for Alena’s book. we’ll see. so far, i think it’s pretty cute, though i wish i could make wings like my sister Jennifer. she makes them perfectly.

Roxanna told me yesterday that i was “sanguine”. i went home and looked it up in the dictionary and it means “happy, animated, assured, buoyant, cheerful, confident, enthusiastic, hopeful, spirted.” Sanguine. my new favortite word.

Bikram is still kicking my ass. I’m close to tears by the end of each class. Roxanna keeps telling me it’s good for me, and i keep pretending to believe her until one day i really do believe her.

John has been asked to interview at Samuel Merritt, a CRNA program in Oakland. he’ll fly out for the interview the first week of March. we’re feeling quite optimistic about the grad school thing. 1 actual interview, and 1 invitation to interview, all in one week! Samuel Merritt is one of his top choices, so it would be really great if he gets accepted. they only accept 12 students per year…..geez!

Sending much love,

Kelly, I luv words! I am so glad you inspired us to take bikram yoga, too! Your title on this blog is “sanguine & altered art” but I keep thinking it says “altered heart.” Yoga has altered my spirit for the better including my “heart.” Roxanna

kelly i’ve never taken bikram yoga but have been studying/practicing primarily iyengar and kundalini yoga for over 12 years. i can’t imagine life without it. when life gets rough – i go to my mat and work it out – the feelings at the end, acknowledging the struggle and renewing my spirit – are so worth it. good luck, i hope you do learn to love it. also you may want to try different teachers/styles because from what i hear bikram is a love/hate type of yoga. peace. p.s. i agree you are very sanguine 🙂
