social work

Aug 16, 2005 | Life in Progress

Can i just say that i really do love being a medical social worker. Everyday is different. I learn something every single day. I love working with patients and their families and being of service to them during a difficult time. But every once in awhile i have a very exhausting day where i feel the load of everyone else’s stress and crisis on my shoulders. Today was one of those days. It was a day of frustrated family members, demanding patients, long wait times on the phone with various customer service departments (all of which resulted in terrible customer service – one of my pet peeves), heartbreaking cases, and me with a tired soul. I was so happy when my friend and coworker Murlene offered to take me to dinner after work as she could tell i was having a rough day. So that’s what we did. We went to dinner with our other friend and coworker Jewel. The three of us sat there and laughed and vented and discussed and gossiped. It was wonderful. I am so fortunate to work with such wonderful people…who notice when you’re having a tough day and make it their cause to help make it better for you. They are gems.

Sending much love,
